2020 and beyond...

What will the Duo Duo Project do over the next 3-5 years to fight against the dog meat trade in China?

You might have noticed some changes happening over at the Duo Duo Project. Through a combination of new talented team members, a shiny new website and historical changes in the Asian dog meat trade, we are reinvigorated and more determined than ever to spread awareness and education around bringing Man’s Best Friend out of the misery of the dog meat trade. We know we still have a long road ahead of us, but we wanted to take a moment to talk you through some of our big ideas and goals over the next 3-5 years.

With the launch of our new website, we’re excited to be focusing our efforts on raising vital funds to support these goals. The aim of the Duo Duo Project has always been to end the dog meat trade in China forever, and we know that there’s no easy way to tackle an industry that is so layered in tradition and cultural customs - but we know that with the right strategies, tools and support, anything is possible. From our years garnering on-ground experience and working within local communities in China, we have developed what we know to be the most effective strategies to do this. We believe that dismantling the problem from the inside-out has seen the most constructive change, and we’re dedicated to continuing our work to transition people in these communities into cruelty-free work.

Here are our major strategic goals for the next 3-5 years that we would like to share with you;

1. Open more animal welfare education centres in areas where the dog meat trade is prevalent.

Our first centre in Yulin is very popular with young Chinese people, who understand the cruelty involved in the dog meat trade and are passionately against it. The Duo Duo Project plans to replicate this model across more cities in China where the dog meat trade is still widely accepted, to further educate and transform the minds of communities and inspire real change on a local level.

2. Expand our factory capacity.

As Duo Duo sells more products from our online store, we can hire more staff who might otherwise be working for the dog meat trade, and transition more people into cruelty-free work. The fact is, those who currently work in the dog meat trade don't get out of bed each day excited to kill animals. Rather, they are desperate - this work is all that they can get. Providing alternative employment options will remove more and more people from needing to engage with the cruel trade.

3. Distributing grants to young entrepreneurs.

As we raise more money through our website, the Duo Duo Project plans to offer grants to young entrepreneurs in Yulin and other cities in China that eat dogs. The next generation in China think very differently about the dog meat trade as opposed to older generations, and by providing them with a small amount of capital, we can support their innovation as they create alternative ways to end the cruel trade.

4. Expand our Spay and Neuter program.

The Duo Duo Project is looking forward to bringing more top-notch veterinary teams from Taiwan and the US to mainland China, in order to train clinicians and lead large-scale spay and neuter programs. These programs seriously disrupt the availability of dogs and cats who are at great risk of being captured, sold, and killed in the slaughterhouses.

Duo Duo knows that our goals are no small feats, and the years ahead will be full of hard work and grit, but we are proudly committed to our mission and rely on your support to help us make these breakthroughs a reality.

To support our 3-5 year plan, please visit our website and purchase some merchandise for yourself or loved ones, or sponsor one of our Yulin dogs (more info here).

We thank you for your ongoing support, and together, we will erase this cruel trade from planet earth forever.
