A vehicle illegally transporting hundreds of cats was intercepted by activists and police officers. Over 900 cats were rescued! All of them were stolen pets and strays.

The cats were rushed to a stray animal rescue center. The rescue center stated that the cats will be available for adoption once they have completed their vaccinations, and they urged citizens to come forward to claim their lost pets.

Facts about the Dog and Cat Meat Trade

Did you know that approximately 10 million dogs and 4 million cats are killed in the cruel dog and cat meat trade every year in China? The three main dog-eating regions of China are Guangdong, Guangxi, and Dongbei. Cat-eating only occurs in the Guangdong and Guangxi regions.

Culturally-Sensitive Humane Education

Our team in China is made up entirely of Chinese activists. Our humane education community outreach programs in dog and cat-eating cities allow residents to have up-close and personal experiences with cats and dogs so they can learn for themselves just how wonderful these animals truly are. Our programs inspire them to see dogs and cats are family, not food.

Spay and Neuter

The horrific dog and cat meat trade is fueled by a lack of resources to manage stray populations. Through our Spay/Neuter Initiative, we can cut off the supply of stray animals who fall victim to the dog and cat meat trade and prevent significant animal suffering.

Legislation

It is very difficult to get animal protection laws passed and enforced in China, but we are pleased to see that the police and local authorities worked with animal activists on this recent large-scale cat rescue. This rescue story made it on to CCTV, the TV station run by the Chinese government. This represents a notable and significant change in attitudes towards cats in China.
