OUR FOCUS FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS

COMPASSION PROGRAMS

ANIMAL CARE

ADVOCACY

COMPASSION PROGRAMS

Our community events help us change hearts and minds by bringing people together with companion animals. Meeting a furry Ambassador  from one of our shelters is often the first time some people will get close to a real, live, lovable dog or cat.

From school visits to popular summer camps, our culturally conscious events show people that dogs and cats are invaluable companions rather than objects to be used or feared.

  • In Mudanjiang, which has a strong dog meat trade, Duo Duo built the Mudanjiang Youth Compassion Center where locals can participate in dog and cat-centric experiences and gain a first-hand appreciation for pets.

  • Through 1+1=Happiness, underprivileged school kids spend time with our shelter dogs & cats. In exchange, they receive support for their school books and uniforms.

  • Thanks to our impact, officials in Mudanjiang have recognized Duo Duo Project as a registered NGO. This status allows us to accomplish more than non-profits working outside the system.

Animal Care

China has the world's largest population of stray animals. The terrified strays snatched from the street are by far the largest source of casualties in the meat trade.

  • We bring veterinarians from Taiwan and the US to hold Spay and Neuter clinics to train veterinary students to use safer, more humane surgical procedures.

  • Besides having two shelters in dog and cat-eating cities Duo Duo teams share best practices and resources with other shelters.

  • We support Chinese activists who intercept trucks transporting captured dogs and cats bound for slaughterhouses.

  • Our ‘Adopt Don’t Buy’ programs spread the word about the love and companionship that dogs—mutts included—bring to families.

Rescued dogs in our 2 shelters in China serve as ambassadors who help convince people that pets are ‘family not food’.

Advocacy

China has laws against aspects of the dog meat trade, but they are seldom enforced. Working with lawyers, students, and activists, Duo Duo Project is helping to bring more unlawful cruelty to light.

  • We’ve lent our expertise to animal welfare organizations committed to authoring a nationwide animal welfare law. And we’ve supported brave activists willing to report unlawful practices.

  • Just recently, after two dog meat restaurants were closed in Mudanjiang, we asked local authorities to ban dog meat restaurants near our Youth Compassion Center. They agreed!

  • We helped convince a major meal delivery platform to refuse to partner with restaurants that serve dog and cat meat.

  • We've consistently been on the ground in Yulin, China exposing the truth about the brutal festival and the illegal trade it supports.

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival’s popularity is waning. Many in the Yulin community are demanding that this shameful event end.

OUR  FUTURE PLANS FOR DOGS & CATS

To foster a more caring world, Duo Duo Project is developing a strategic partnership to encourage, assist, and promote key cities in China that commit to transforming their inhumane practices. To receive accolades and the title of ‘COMPASSION CITY’, we’ll work with the community and officials to:

  • ban dog and cat meat restaurants

  • build a shelter system with adoption programs

  • practice humane treatment of stray animals

  • implement spay and neuter strategies

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR EVERYTHING

You have powered this movement and helped Duo Duo Project work toward our mission to end a brutal, unnecessary trade. We truly appreciate you and are delighted to share this milestone with you.

TEAM CHINA

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

TEAM CHINA

Dear Friend,

Our team is on the ground in China all year. On my countless trips to China and particularly to Yulin, epicenter of the trade, I've talked to vendors, activists, lawyers, and even people who still eat dogs and cats. I've learned what will work and won't work and carefully shaped our strategies.

With your continued support, we'll end this horrific trade through our innovative, culturally conscious programs.
