The Recent 7.2 Earthquake in Taiwan

Finding Strength in the Wake of Tragedy

In the aftermath of the recent earthquake in Taiwan, where our Founder and Executive Director Andrea Gung was born and raised, our hearts have been heavy with the weight of the devastation. Yet amidst the wreckage, we find glimmers of hope and resilience that bind us together as a global community.

These moments of compassion in the wake of enormous tragedy remind us of the touching images of dogs being rescued from the rubble after past earthquakes in China. These scenes serve as poignant reminders of the unbreakable bond between humans and animals, showcasing the compassion and empathy that can exist even in the darkest of times.

One of our team members in China, deeply moved by these images, posed a profound question: "How can anyone eat these wonderful creatures?" It is a question that echoes in our hearts and propels us forward in our mission to shift perceptions and advocate for the welfare of dogs and cats, particularly among the younger generations in China.

Looking ahead, we are confronted with another harrowing event: the looming specter of the horrific Yulin dog meat "festival" which occurs in June. In response, we are issuing a call to action for animal lovers worldwide, urging you all to stand in solidarity with us by hosting International Pet Appreciation Rallies throughout the month of June.

These rallies serve as more than just gatherings; they are beacons of compassion and unity, sending a powerful message that dogs and cats are cherished members of our families, deserving of love and respect—not commodities for consumption.

Whether you choose to convene at a popular local dog park, a serene picnic area, a bustling pet store, or even in your company's parking lot, your rally will be a testament to the collective power of empathy and advocacy. We will equip you with banners, information, and resources to facilitate your efforts, making organizing your rally a breeze.

Together, let us illuminate the darkness of the Yulin "festival" with the radiant glow of love and appreciation for our furry family members. Your unwavering support and dedication to our cause are the driving forces behind our movement, and we are immensely grateful for your kindness and generosity.

To embark on this transformative journey and learn more about hosting your own International Pet Appreciation Rally in June, please reach out to our Director of Campaigns, Christy Griffin, at christy.g@duoduoproject.org. Join us as we celebrate the enduring bond between humans and animals and pave the way for a brighter, more compassionate future.
