Two Recent Animal Welfare Victories

Updated: Jan 30

Compassion fuels positive change! We are celebrating two recent victories in animal welfare made possible because of the dedication of activists.

Victory One:

Activists in Hangzhou, China, recently intercepted a truck carrying 1,000 cats destined for slaughter. Over the course of two days and nights, young activists shadowed the truck, embodying a tenacious determination that refused to be silenced.

What unfolded was a testament to the profound impact that compassion coupled with unwavering dedication can achieve. Approximately 100 young activists swarmed the scene, forcing the truck to stop, then freeing and providing care and solace to the abused and traumatized cats.

The cats were suffering from wounds and broken bones from their brutal capture. They were extremely hungry and thirsty. All of them were terrified. Out of 1008 cats rescued, 30 of them sadly passed away, and 405 cats will be taken in by different cat shelters in surrounding cities. The remaining rescued cats were taken in by a shelter owned by a local businesswoman. The actions of these brave activists remind us that the fight for animal protection is a shared responsibility, a collective endeavor.

Victory Two:

The South Korean National Assembly's historic decision to outlaw the dog meat trade is not merely a legal milestone; it symbolizes the culmination of tireless efforts by passionate individuals who refused to yield to the status quo. For years, Korean activists persistently advocated for change. The resonance of the activists’ collective voices echoed through the halls of legislation, marking a turning point in the fight against the cruel dog meat trade.

This ban aligns South Korea with a growing global movement that includes Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, India, Thailand, Singapore, Shenzhen and Zhuhai in mainland China, all taking strides toward eradicating the dog meat trade.

We send our heartfelt congratulations to all of the animal activists who made this historic victory possible!

Activism Works!

These two victories encapsulate the extraordinary impact that dedicated individuals, especially this generation of young activists, can have on the world. Each rescued animal and every legislative change is a testament to the undying spirit of those who refuse to avert their gaze from the suffering of innocent beings.

In celebrating these victories, it is imperative to delve deeper into the wellspring of determination that fuels activists. Their commitment serves as a beacon of hope that resounds on a global scale. Together, we stand as witnesses to the transformative power of a movement ignited by compassion and propelled by the unyielding dedication of those who envision a world where the welfare of our fellow beings is paramount.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

Thank you all for being a part of this growing movement. We are determined to follow South Korea's important victory and keep working towards ending the dog and cat meat trade globally.
