Embracing the New Year with New Hope

As we step into the Lunar New Year, a season of fresh beginnings and renewed aspirations, we are thrilled to share with you the journey of hope and progress that lies ahead.

Here is why our hearts are filled with optimism and determination:

  • A Decade of Dedication: For the past ten years, the Duo Duo Project has been at the forefront of animal welfare advocacy in China. With dedicated teams working tirelessly 365 days a year, we have made significant strides in educating communities, providing vital care to animals, and fostering a culture of compassion.

  • Historic Victories: South Korea's parliament recently passed a bill to ban the eating and selling of dog meat - a historic victory for animal welfare and a significant motivation for activists working in all dog-eating countries. The dog meat trade has also been banned in Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, India, Thailand, and Singapore, as well as Shenzhen and Zhuhai in mainland China.

  • New Year, New Hope: This year, we are embarking on a transformative endeavor – the establishment of our first animal clinic and a nationwide spay and neuter program in China. This milestone represents not only a significant step forward in our efforts to end the dog and cat meat trade, it also ensures a brighter future for countless animals in need.

  • Changing Perceptions: The removal of dog meat-serving restaurants from major food delivery platforms and the success of Chinese-produced movies featuring dogs as beloved characters signal a significant shift in societal attitudes towards animals in China.

  • Rescue Efforts: 100 young activists rushed to help in days-long triage efforts during a recent rescue mission in Hangzhou, China. Almost 1,000 cats were saved from slaughter, serving as a testament to the power of compassion and collective action in saving lives and creating positive change.

  • Youth Engagement: Our programming for Chinese youth continues to grow. The most popular program is our art contests for kids, which are held in cities affected by the dog and cat meat trade. To make them particularly effective, these enlightening events feature dog and cat "models" we've rescued from the cruel meat trade.

  • Compassion Cities Program: Through our “Compassion Cities” program, we are partnering with cities in China to build robust systems of animal care, community engagement, and education, paving the way for lasting change.

  • International Pet Appreciation: In June, we will celebrate our second annual International Pet Appreciation Day with a large-scale rally in San Francisco and a month-long series of volunteer-driven rallies around the world. This global outpouring of love for dogs and cats intentionally precedes and is in protest of the horrific Yulin dog meat "festival."

  • Growing Community: None of our achievements would be possible without the unwavering support of our growing community of animal lovers. Your generosity and commitment have fueled our efforts and brought us closer to realizing our vision of a world where all animals are treated with kindness and respect.

  • Your Support: Please consider adding to our New Year New Hope celebration of progress with a contribution to Duo Duo Project. Your kind gift will help us establish our first animal clinic and nationwide spay and neuter program in China.

As we embark on this journey of hope and progress, we invite you to join us in our mission to create a brighter future for animals in China. Help us pave the way for lasting change. Together, we can make a difference and build a world where animals are valued, respected, and protected.

Thank you for your unwavering support, and from all of us at the Duo Duo Project, we wish you a Happy Lunar New Year!
