Changing Hearts and Minds One Movie at a Time
At Duo Duo Project, we know that lasting change begins with education. That’s why we’re thrilled to share the continuing success of one of our educational initiatives—a project that brings together families, emotions, and a powerful message of compassion.
We recently sponsored screenings of a new Chinese-produced film called “Black Dog.” This heartwarming movie, set in a small town in northwest China, tells the story of Erlang, a former prisoner, and his unexpected bond with a stray black dog. Together, they embark on a journey of redemption, hope, and new beginnings.
What makes these events so impactful is not only the high caliber of the film itself—having earned recognition at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival—but the audience it reached. We offered free tickets to individuals and families in some of China’s dog-eating cities, to further develop their understanding of dogs as family, not food. These are communities where parents might never choose to watch such a film, but when their children expressed interest, they came along.
The results were moving beyond words. After the screening, our teams in China reported seeing many parents leave with tears in their eyes. For them, “Black Dog” was more than just a film—it was an eye-opening experience that challenged their perceptions and planted seeds of compassion.
This is the third time in just a few years that a Chinese-made film featured a lovable leading dog! It’s initiatives like these that lay the foundation for lasting change. By touching hearts and changing minds, we are slowly but surely turning dog and cat eaters into dog and cat lovers. Together, we’re making progress—step by step, film by film, heart by heart.
But none of this would be possible without YOU—our dedicated supporters. Your generosity allows us to continue our mission of ending the dog and cat meat trade, by fostering a deep appreciation of dogs and cats as friends and family members, not food. Thank you for being a part of this important journey.
